Ode To Autumn

27/10/2021

There you are, my friend. Have I waited for you, three whole seasons, full of outdoor activities and new excursions.

I saw you arriving stealthy; leaf by leaf, drop by drop, shadow by shadow.

It was a sign to prepare myself for your arrival; scarves, gloves, candles, calmness.

It is important to be ready because everything will always be so different when you arrive. Compared to you, the last three months always feel like another life, sometimes even like another world.

And you have been widening your presence here, year after year and I wonder how long you will eventually stay in the future.

Some fear it.

I love it.

I've always loved your time here. I wait for you like a kid on Christmas Eve and I grieve when you have to step aside. I love how you force living creatures to calm down, save energy on what's to come and hold on to their homes.

"Here I am, to bring change, and you'll change with me," You say.

Please do, I say,

and get my sweater.
